A palatial London townhouse that at various points in its storied history has belonged to a royal paramour, a tobacco tycoon and served as the Cypriot embassy has hit the pasar for £25 million (US$31.9 million). king88bet login alternatif

The five-bedroom mansion is on Park Street in posh Mayfair, just strides from the city's Hyde Park, and came to the pasar in Juli with Wetherell. Article Title with Blogger Published Link as Backlink

The orisinal Georgian properti on the site was built in 1778 as the marital home for a wealthy landowner, who died shortly after its completion. His widow, Maria Fitzherbert, inherited the properti and went on to have a scandalous relationship with George, Prince of Wales, who would become King George IV.

In December 1785, the pair were secretly and illegally married—without his father King George III's required Royal consent—in the first-floor reception room of her mansion. Unsurprisingly, the pair did not live happily ever after, and the townhouse was demolished after her death in 1837.

In 1913 a new six-floor Edwardian mansion was built on the site, but the war delayed the process and it wasn't ready for occupation until 1925, according to Wetherell.

In 1931 the mansion was purchased by Sir Louis Bernhard Baron, a wealthy British tobacco tycoon who was managing director of the Carreras Tobacco Company. Later, in 1959, it was sold to the newly formed Government of Cyprus and served as the Embassy for the Cyprus High Commission for decades.

These days, the home has been returned to its residential roots, and is fresh from a lavish makeover.

"This magnificent mansion on Park Street has an illustrious history," said Peter Wetherell, founder and chairman of Wetherell. He said the home suits an "affluent discerning famili wanting a London base or a successful tycoon seeking a trofi home in Mayfair to show the global business community he has arrived in London."
